019 To Fly

Featured

This vocal was inspired a little by Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World… which I had listened to earlier in the day.

Using layered drum loops and original steel string guitar, the song has a relaxed vibe.

The free mp3 download of the song is available below the word Attachment (under the video). (UPDATE: site migration in 2022 did not include mp3’s).

Lyrics
To Fly

you’re here
traveling down low
somebody pushed you there
but you can get up, oh

(there’s)
So many ways, to fly
when you know how to go
you feel and it’s alright

in the wind you may fall
when you’re down, you know
down’s nothing at all
just a view from below

’cause

(there’s)
So many ways, to fly
when you know how to go
you feel and it’s alright

To Fly – video

036 No Name (and 037, 038, 039, 040)

changing format a bit, and no name or vocals or video (yet) for this song.

(UPDATE: that line was all there was for the Feb. 5, 2008 post. And the posts the next 4 days just had 2 parentheses “()”, as the project continued to have issues!)

035 Cool Dreaming

What to do… when my voice is not up for smooth singing? Many retakes, and a huskier tone, perhaps

Cool dreaming
Lyrics (c) 2008 Paul F Worsham

a concious all undone
knocking on your door
comes something of a friend
inside your place once more

cool dreaming
a shadow hides
in thoughts just
for a while
cool dreaming
waking up
to catch him/it
with a smile

taking all the warm air
skin to tear apart
in cold coat of feeling
with pockets for the heart

cool dreaming
a shadow hides
in thoughts just
for a while

cool dreaming
waking up
to catch him/it
with a smile

morning sunshine
finds nothing on my mind
except memories of you
sweet memories of you

tender lifelines
in a box tied with twine
holding memories of you
sweet memories of you

cool dreaming
a shadow hides
in thoughts just
for a while

cool dreaming
waking up
to catch him/it
with a smile

034 There’s A Place

A longer song than most earlier ones, with more of a regular song structure of V-C-V-C-B-C. Took more than 3 times as long to record as it did to write… writing was about 20 minutes.

There’s A Place
Lyrics (c) 2008

Can you feel the way I feel you?
Is there any witness to the
thoughts you hide inside?
And could you go a little faster
in your haste
Arriving late but just in time
to change?

There’s a place I have to go now
the wind is calling with a cry
that echoes round and r ound
The sweet sounds of home calling
The sweetness of home

Will you follow or will you lead now?
Is the sky a little indigo blue?
What is pulling on your heart
when you aren’t moving?
Can you dance blindfolded
down a naked road?

There’s a place I have to go now
the wind is calling with a cry
that echoes round and round
The sweet sounds of home calling
The sweetness of home

make the warming sun find
some new gold in my haze
take back all the memories
of the things I wished away

There’s a place I have to go now
the wind is calling with a cry
that echoes round and sound
The sweet sounds of home calling
The sweetness of home

032 (and other missing days)

(content pending rewrite)

Now in counting songs, there is some (sorta easy) math required to add up the current number of days of the year.

UPDATE: the one-song-per-day effort in 2008 missed a day, and then another, and then another… including this on on Feb. 1. A post was made each day, but without a completed song.)

028 One More Day

The lyrics and free mp3 song download are below. The video rendering is still an issue, for now.

One More Day
Lyrics (c) 2008

she smiles her wierd smile
and then gives up on me
cause of what I could do

then she says the words
to give me
one more day
a love to stay

it’s a long mile
and one that’s up to me
if one side can undo

’cause she finds the strength
to give me
one more day
a love to stay

Tech notes: Sony Acid 7, HP laptop, drum & guitar loops, vocals added.

026 On Valentines Day (song)

The romantic song about hope for Valentine’s Day. Free mp3 download is available below the word Attachment. (UPDATE: site migration did not copy mp3’s).

On Valentine’s Day

—————————————

Lyrics (original post had the lyrics split above, to the right, and below the video, in another crude captioning attempt.)

finding my path back to you
there’s nothing funny about this sad truth
when you love me
and i love you
and distance is in the way

on Valentine’s Day

along the road that feels like home
there’s a lot of miles
of lonely time left to go
when you hear me
I should be with you
to whisper three words
you’ll hear me sayon Valentine’s Day

and if you can believe in love
cutting through time and pain
find the way to touch just once / more
inside the fire again
on Valentine’s Day

025 Closer To

Now more than halfway to song #50… closer to it. This song has one verse/chorus, and is a bit experimental.

closer to

everything is fear
until it can appear
bring it ever closer
to you

closer to you

Lyrics
(c) 2008 Paul F Worsham / Song Daily

Tech notes: recorded and mixed using Sony Vegas 7, along with the usual guitar and vocals (recorded live). Guitar amp is a Vox DA5.

024 Life On

Two dozen songs so far in 2008… short ones, shorter ones, vocal ones too.

This song is a little less vocal-ly oriented… a little soreness in the throat, perhaps? Rest up and get better… life goes on.

Tech notes: throat too sore to write it all (!), and same equipment as most of this month. Added some reverb on top of the other guitar effects for added echo-y-ness (a technical term).

023 Right Now

the songs keep piling up… easier and easier every day! Very nice feeling to crank them out.

This song is a positive-feeling song in the realm of random thoughts while feeling good, but also thinking a little about something else. In other words, make what you will of it, and enjoy.

(UPDATE: The original post had the lyrics on the left, right, and bottom of the video, in a crude captioning attempt. It did not migrate that way. The table below shows how it looked.)

the way you move
the way you smile
the things you think
to throw outside
the little window
closing down
around me
(video)
you say you fool
don’t play in school
learn everything
then you can hide
the brittle wind blowing
through the frowns and
astound me
right now I’m beside myself
inside a dream
Somewhere else you’re right
beside me
in need

I may be cool
and stray from rules
with a little wink
on late late nights
grinding pride
in streets my town
had found me
in need.

(C) 2008 Paul F Worsham

Tech notes: same basic setup as most of this month’s songs… but combining acoustic/steel guitar as pad (chords) with electric guitar solo. Used Sony Acid 7 to mix it, tweaking the reverb/EQ on the vocals a bit.
